Elena L. Cohen
Elena L. Cohen is a civil rights attorney, legal scholar, and educator whose work spans the intersections of law, gender justice, and political theory. She is a founding partner at Cohen & Green, PLLC, where she represents individuals facing discrimination and challenges unconstitutional practices through high-impact civil rights litigation. Her cases include landmark actions against the NYPD, successful nationwide voting rights litigation, and the defense of protestors, activists, and sex workers.

Elena currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Law at Delaware Law School, Widener University. She has also taught at Drexel University’s Kline School of Law and several senior colleges within the CUNY system, offering courses in constitutional law, civil procedure, gender and the law, and legal reasoning.

She earned her J.D. magna cum laude from Cardozo School of Law, where she was a Public Service Scholar and Articles Editor of the Cardozo Law Review. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Theory from the CUNY Graduate Center, with a dissertation focused on erotic justice and comparative constitutional law. Her academic work explores how power and identity intersect with the law, and she has published widely in both legal and interdisciplinary journals.

A former President of the National Lawyers Guild, Elena has coordinated the legal defense of thousands of protestors and continues to advocate for systemic reform. She frequently speaks on topics ranging from protest policing to gender bias in the legal field, and has contributed to major academic volumes on comparative constitutionalism and religious freedom.
